Randall’s United Way Youth Cabinet starts off year

The Randall United Way Youth Cabinet is starting off the year with a new face. For the past three years, Elaine Lawrence has been the leader of the Randall Youth Cabinet, but this year, math lab teacher Jana Fincke is the new head of the Youth Cabinet.

“This is my first year, but I’m very enthusiastic,” Fincke said.

United Way is an organization that helps to assist communities and underprivileged youth and senior citizens. Volunteers with United Way fundraise money to support these communities. The Youth Cabinet at Randall is a younger generation of volunteers that help to represent the younger, needy kids.

“We are behind as far as setting up our representatives [but] students at Randall are very generous, so I expect us to still raise a lot,” Fincke said. “So far, [we only have] six [representatives], but I’m hoping we grow more.”

Fincke said the Randall Youth Cabinet will determine how to raise the money for this year as well as deciding where the money will go.

“[The] Youth Cabinet delegates how the funds raised by schools are dispersed,” Fincke said. “Randall Youth Cabinet members will work with other surrounding schools to raise money and disperse funds.”

While Fincke said she is still trying to set up a good meeting time for the Randall Youth Cabinet, there is still an opportunity to represent the Randall Youth Cabinet at the Amarillo Area meeting.

“The Amarillo Area Youth Cabinet meets on Tuesdays from 5:00-7:00,” Fincke said. “We work jointly to plan a youth rally, offer fundraising ideas, and later with the [separation] of funds to charitable organizations.”

It is not too late to join the Randall Youth Cabinet. For more information, you can talk to Fincke in 108 West.

“We have a great school, and I know we can provide a lot of support to United Way,” Fincke said. “I’m looking forward to the experience.”
