2016 Political Elections

Every four years the American people elect a new president, and this November, voters will decide who will become the 45th president of the United States. Former senator and secretary of state, Democrat Hillary Clinton, and Republican businessman Donald Trump have earned their party’s nomination and are battling it out in the polls. Latest poll results show that Americans seem to be at a stalemate for their candidate of choice.

To vote in the Nov. 8 election, citizens must preregister online and then go to the local polls with proper identification on election day.

U.S. Government teacher Aaron Faver said it is important for Americans to vote in the election, but more importantly, to be an informed voter.

“My expectation of a good citizen is to know what to vote for,” Faver said. “It is dangerous to be ignorant and have the power to vote.”

When compared to previous elections, this campaign has brought out an unprecedented amount of controversy. However, Faver said there is one thing that is similar to all of the elections before.

“In every presidential election, the candidates are selling to the people that the nation is going to hell, and that they are the solution,” Faver said.

That is something voters expect to hear more of in the upcoming debates on Sept. 26, Oct. 24, and Oct. 29. The debates will broadcast live on C-SPAN, ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC, as well as all cable news channels CNN, Fox News and NBC.
