Shoot for the stars

For senior Brittany Castillo, sitting at the computer doing homework is a daily routine in order to maintain her grades, transcript and plans for the future. In hopes of one day becoming a well-known journalist, Castillo is out to change the world.

Castillo loves to talk; talk to people, about people, for people. Ever since she can remember she has always been interested in journalism, and helping out anyone in any way she could. She plans to make a career of it after high school while attending WTAMU.

“I’m currently involved in cheerleading, KFTB, Student Council and I am also an intern at Pro News channel 7,” Castillo said. “I feel it’s much more beneficial to get involved in as many extracurricular activities as I can in order to be well known and experienced in my community.”

Castillo said she has many plans and strategies in order to get ahead and to be the most excellent she can be at her future dream job.

I’m currently an intern at Pro News channel 7, and WT has a wonderful broadcasting program,” Castillo said. “So I have many resources and leads in order to help me get a good head start at this. My plan is to attend WT upon graduation and receive my bachelors’ degree in Mass Communications.”

With so many plans for the future, Castillo doesn’t have all of her eggs in one basket. She said she has a couple of back up plans and fallback ideas.

“Broadcast Journalist is a top goal for me, but I would still consider myself to be successful and accomplished if I could still help people as a counselor or a therapist, or just anyway I could help people with their troubles,” Castillo said.

Castillo is extremely confident and ready to take on new things and adventures that come along with the real world after graduating high school.

“I’m very determined, and I have my goals set on being the best that I can be,” Castillo said. “All things considered, at the end of the day, I want to change the world for the better. Really , I believe everybody should go full-force with their dreams, because there’s a reason everybody is passionate about something different. It’s our destiny.”
