Cinnamon challenge can cause irreversible damage

From January to March, poison centers have answered an estimated 140 calls regarding teen exposure to cinnamon, and 30 of them required medical evaluation. The cinnamon challenge is being banned from schools and has doctors and poison control experts saying that, while it’s meant to be in good fun, there is potential danger. Schools in Alabama have been warning parents and staff about the potential dangers of swallowing large amounts of cinnamon at once. Doctors say the challenge is impossible because the cinnamon can’t be digested without water and warn that inhaling the cinnamon dust, teens risk inflaming or scarring their lungs. There have been over 30,000 YouTube videos posted within these last few months, and people still posting. According to AnnArbor.com, the game can cause students to suffer hypoxia, choking, vomiting and coughing. The game can reportedly cause pneumonia if the cinnamon is aspirated into the lungs, and cause irreversible damage for life.
