As the students gather in the auditorium at the beginning of class, they suddenly hear the words “come on chickens.” This is the way teacher Brooklynn James gathers the class together to begin rehearsing.

James is the new theatre and speech teacher at Randall. James graduated from Seminole High School in 2012 and received a degree in Theatre Education from West Texas A&M University. Last year, James was a student teacher and directed the play “The Survivor ” for the theatre three and four class.

“I’ve always wanted to be a teacher,” James said. “I didn’t know until high school that I wanted to teach theatre and speech.”

James coaches the speech and debate team and assists in directing theatre shows.

“I hope to be successful and help my students to be successful,” James said.

James said the two biggest influences in her life are her mom and her speech and debate coach.

“They taught me the value in doing what you love,” James said. “They inspired me to follow my dreams and set my goals high.”

James participated in Speech and Debate, Theatre, One-Act Play, National Honor Society, and 4H in high school.

“Theatre and speech had a very strong, positive impact on my life in high school,” James said. “I couldn’t imagine my life without out it and I’m lucky enough to be able to share that with students.”
