UIL to announce new district lines in February

UIL will release announce the new district lines for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 school years in February. There has been much discussion that UIL will add an additional “A” to the mix. This, in turn, will tighten up the current enrollment gap between schools competing in the same division.

The plan would move 220-245 Texas schools with the largest enrollments into conference 6A. The remaining conferences will be divided up according to enrollment and will have a minimum of 200 schools in each division.

Superintendant Mike Wartes told the Canyon News it is hard to tell if Randall and Canyon High will move classifications since the schools current enrollment borders between what will become 4A and 5A.

Many speculate that most of the current 5A schools, which includes Tascosa, will move to 6A. Because of Amarillo High’s large enrollment, they are teetering the line between 5A and 6A. With UIL tightening the enrollment gap, they very well could be bumped up to 6A.

Many coaches expect both Randall and Canyon High to become 5A, along with most of the schools current competitors.
