Following the U.I.L. Academic Regional competition, five students are traveling to Austin next week to compete in the district 5A State competition.

U.I.L. offers 29 academic contests at the high school level. The students who advanced are Joojin Abaoag in Current Events, Natasa Dobras in News Writing, Bonnie Fischer in LD Debate, Keslie Pharis in Biology, and Taryn Dia in Informative Speaking. The competitions will take next place next week on April 21 and 22.

The process of these competitions is simple; the students who place in the top three at district will advance to region. At region, the students who place in top two advance to state. The perks of advancing to state is all students qualify for a scholarship. After each event there will be a banquet where the students will be informed of the results.
