The tennis team gathers on their home court before a match against Lubbock High.

The tennis team’s season came to an end Tuesday with a 2-10 loss against Amarillo High in the Regional Finals. The No. 10 state ranked Raiders went into the match as a huge underdog to the No. 3 ranked Sandies.

“I am so proud of our Raiders,” coach Darby Norman said. “Per tradition, our team fought hard, overachieved, and had a great run in the playoffs. Losing is never fun, but you have to experience the crummy stuff to truly appreciate the good times in life. I am very thankful for our dedicated kids, our supportive parents and our successful tennis program.”

To get to Regional Finals, the Raiders finished district in second place after losing to Amarillo High 4-15 then defeated Lubbock High 10-6 in Bi-District, El Paso Del Valle 19-0 in Area, Lubbock Monterey 10-9 in Regional Quarterfinals and Wichita Falls 11-7 in Regional Semifinals. With the end of the fall season, the Raiders team will now focus on preparing for spring competition which will begin in February.

“Spring is a lot different because in the fall you are competing as a team and in the spring we compete as an individual,” senior Mia Childers said. “I am looking forward to spring because I am excited to see how far as a team that we can.”
