The varsity boys’ basketball team looks forward to a new season.

After finishing the 2021-2022 season with a 20-16 overall record and 5-7 in district, the varsity boys’ basketball team will take the court this year with returning powerhouses KJ Thomas, Brody Wilson and JJ Buchanan. The team also has veteran Coach Leslie Broadhurst on their side, who is in his 33rd year as Randall head coach.

The goal is for the varsity boys’ basketball team to go to the state tournament in San Antonio and win a state championship.

The boys will officially begin preseason games on Nov. 15 at home against Plainview and district play on Dec. 16 at home against Dumas. However, the team has already been hard at work during the summer and off-season.

“This past summer we played a lot of good competition in team camps at Creighton and Texas Tech and then in tournaments in Duncanville,” Broadhurst said. “We played some very good teams and won a lot of games against the tough competition we faced.”

During the off-season, the team worked with a trainer who coached them on workout routines, strength and conditioning. Now, with the basketball season approaching, Broadhurst said the boys have set team goals and are ready for competition.

“Our goal is to improve every day and continue to grow as a team,” Broadhurst said. “The goal is (also) for the varsity boys’ basketball team to go to the state tournament in San Antonio and win a state championship.”
