The choir department has been busy collecting accolades. On Tuesday, all three varsity choirs received a Sweepstakes rating and the non-varsity choir received a 2 (excellent rating) on stage and a 1 (superior rating) in sight reading at their UIL competition. Today, they are celebrating the news that some Randall choir members will soon get state recognition.

The Texas Music Educators Association will name 14 Randall students as Texas Music Scholars during their May 1 ceremony.

The association, which sponsors the Texas All-State Bands, Orchestras and Choirs, gives this award to students who have exhibited outstanding qualities in scholastic merit, musicianship and citizenship in their school and community. Last year, fewer than 1,800 students state-wide became Texas Music Scholars.

The Texas Music Educators Association is headquartered in Austin, and is an association of over 13,000 music teachers whose goals are to support music education in Texas, provide professional growth opportunities for educators, foster public support for music in schools and offer quality musical experiences for students.
