Randall’s first play of the season is “A Piece of My Heart,” led by director Macy Dawson. It is her second year at Randall and her first time directing a play here.
A Piece of My Heart is a true story about six women before, during, and after the Vietnam War. The characters convey the struggles that women faced during that time period. The play’s leads are Emma Adams, Giselle Melendez, Harper Coleman, Briley Stoddard, Carmen Guajardo, and Madisyn Myles.
Myles, a sophomore, plays Sissy. She describes her as naïve and always trying to look for the good in people and situations.
“My favorite character is my own because she’s just so full of excitement and is more than happy to always lend a helping hand,” Myles said.
Myles has been acting for a little under 3 years. She is very excited about this year in particular because she gets to be a part of her first productions class play.
“Since this is my first production I’m very excited, but also slightly nervous because I want to do my best and prove to people how far I’ve come,” Myles said.
This is the first play Dawson is lead directing at RHS. She is the assistant to theater director Cy Scroggins. Her background is in acting in both high school and college, and she has been a theater teacher at Crockett Middle School and River Road Middle School before joining the Randall staff.
“My parents put me in theater to get out my excess energy, and now I’m a theater director as my job, which is super cool!” Dawson said.
You can tell by her demeanor that she is passionate about acting, her students, and loves what she does.
Myles also mentioned that she is very happy with Dawson directing the play.
“Mrs. Dawson has helped me grow so much as an actor in the little time she has been at Randall. She has shown me new and different ways to express the emotions of my characters. We have become very close and I love her dearly.” Myles said.
Opening night for A Piece of My Heart is Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Randall Auditorium. They will also perform Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Everyone involved in this play has worked extremely hard to put on the best show possible, so show up and show out for your Raiders!
