Though many nutritionists like to focus on what would be beneficial to eat, I find it much more difficult to stay away from the things I shouldn’t eat. It doesn’t help that my family likes to snack a lot, giving me an occasional peek of whatever’s in the candy cabinet. The only solution is to stay out of the kitchen so I’m not tempted by snacks.
The list of things to stay away from is long. Of course, there are the obvious things like soda, candy, and ice cream. But contrary to popular belief, even yogurt can be unhealthy. It is usually advertised as low fat or fat free, but contains a lot of sugar. Plain greek yogurt is a healthy alternative because it has an abundance of protein and much less sugar.
According to a health writer, Melissa Breyer, Mott’s Original Apple Sauce “might as well be called ‘high fructose corn syrup sauce.’” The supposedly ‘healthy’ snack actually has an unnecessary amount of sugar in it. Breyer suggests Mott’s Natural Apple Sauce (No sugar added) because it has half the calories and grams of sugar.
Advertisements can often be deceiving, so it’s always a good idea to check the nutrition facts before you eat anything. Oftentimes, companies don’t care about how healthy their product is, they just want to sell it!
