Turkey day gone wrong

A few Thanksgivings ago I was at my grandmother’s house not so patiently waiting for the food to finally fill my awaiting stomach. Like every other year before, all my family except my grandmother was sitting on the couch watching football. Suddenly, my grandma yelled out the words I had been waiting for, “it’s ready, come eat.” Excitedly, I ran into the kitchen inhaling the savory scent of roasted turkey and stuffing. I looked at the turkey tray filled to the brim with white and dark chopped up pieces of turkey. Confused I turn to my grandma, ” did we have two turkeys this year?” “No,” she replied just as confused. “What makes you think that?” I proceeded to explain that there was dark turkey meat as well as white turkey meat. So it had to come from two different turkey’s, correct?

As soon as the words leave my mouth, belly-busting laughter filled the room. Still confused and beginning to blush, I asked what everyone was laughing about.

That was the day I learned a lesson that would come in handy for all the Thanksgivings to come; you can’t buy a white turkey or dark turkey. Turkeys have both white and dark meat.
