Gifts for the significant other, do’s for Christmas

If you are one of the girls who expects your boyfriend to pay a ridiculous amount of money on Christmas gifts for you, or a guy who demands to have the newest techy stuff then don’t read this blog. This blog is for the majority of high school students who do not have a job and don’t want to milk their parents dry trying to buy their boyfriend or girlfriend a great gift. Rather than list off cheap and easy DIY things that only turn out halfway decent if you’re the spawn of Martha Stewart or have Mrs. Debbie Homemaker as a guide, here are a few things to keep in mind while in search of the perfect present.

  1. Don’t over think. This time of year can be stressful and the perfect gift is not always out there in plain sight. You want to show you care and have feelings for this person, but don’t stress yourself out about it.
  2. Keep the other person’s interests in mind. Just because you find something cheap in the Nike aisle or a discounted necklace doesn’t mean you should buy it- make sure it’s something your significant other would enjoy.
  3. Cheap doesn’t have to mean lousy. No matter how good the sale or low the price, make sure whatever you buy is a quality that your person can enjoy long after Christmas Day.
  4. Personalization is everything. No one likes receiving a gift they know was last minute or rushed. By putting time in and adding a personal touch, you will make your girlfriend or boyfriend feel more appreciated and cared for.
  5.  If you are crunched for time or money, try finding something you already have to give. A handwritten card with a poem or story, your favorite old CD, or a collage of pictures in a frame are all simple, cheap and fast ways to let your admiration shine.

Lastly, remember no matter what it is you buy, it’s the thought and action that count. Whatever you buy or make will be special because it was full of thought and care.
