2012 prediction false

The Mayan Calendar has calculated the exact time of the end of the world. According the Mayans, that date is December 21, 2012.

The predicted end of the world is not coming to destroy us all.

There have been many predictions that the world would end before, but human life still exists on planet Earth. In 1919, Meteorologist Albert Porta predicted that six planets would generate a magnetic current that would cause the sun to explode and engulf the Earth. In May of 1999 Bryan Elder, an Arkansas hydraulics specialist, was quoted saying that the alignment of the planets will burn up the Earth.

The 2012 prediction is mainly based on religious beliefs, very little is scientifically based. The Mayan calendar was mapped out based on their beliefs.  They have had a few good guesses, but just because the calendar ends, doesn’t mean that the world will end.

An asteroid will not smash into the Earth, and a cloud of negative energy will not engulf the solar system. There will be no gigantic black hole, and the Earth’s axis will not tip. There is no way for the Earth to tilt because it is kept steady by the gravitational pull of the moon. There is the point in worrying about an asteroid smashing into mother Earth. In theory, one could come out of the blue tomorrow. There is another scenario, which is that there will be a change in the sun’s magnetic field. No dragon’s breath of flame will stretch millions of miles across the solar system and blowtorch all of humanity on Earth’s surface.

Many people believe that the world is going to end in 2012 because the Mayan Calendar says so, but if we can’t prove when “doomsday” will be with all of the technology and science that we have available to us today, then why should we believe that the Mayans could have 1,200 years ago?

With all the hype, it isn’t a surprise that Hollywood would try to get a piece of the action as well. The movie “Doomsday” released earlier this month is sure to add additional fear to the Mayan prediction. People who choose to see the movie should keep it in perspective and realize that the movie is not based off of fact and is not going to happen. Everyone needs to calm down, go on with their lives and stop preparing for something that isn’t scientifically proven. On December 22, 2012 we will all laugh when science proves the Mayans wrong and we can look back on another failed “doomsday” prediction.

Why do people keep saying 2012 is the end of the world? The Mayans never said it was the end of the world. They said there would be a “great change” or the dawn of a new period in human history. There is going to be some fun stuff going on during then (eclipse over the city of the Mayans, transit of Venus, an astrological alignment) but it is in no way the end of the world. Since the Mayans were sun worshiping pagans, a day when a lot of things were going on in the universe would be a “life-changing” day.
