Randall Colorguard prepares for winter season.

With flags, rifles and dance moves, winter guard is starting off its third season. Winter guard is an indoor color guard performance with themes and music, but with no marching band beside it. This season their theme is baseball, featuring, four classic baseball hits that you would hear at a baseball game.

This will make only the third year the guard has competed. Last year, they finished 3rd in a competition and moved up a class in who they compete with. Members also received first in their solo and ensemble performances.

Senior and Guard Captain, Ashlyn Robinson said the guard had a rough season last year due to their inexperience with the contest. However, Robinson said they have learned a lot since then and have made improvements.

“I anticipate that this season goes well,” Robinson said. “Especially for the seniors because this is our last chance and last memory we will make in the guard. We have already made a lot of progress and we are almost ready to move on to the middle of the show.”

We have a lot of solos within the show. It’s a fun and exciting theme and we have put a lot of blood, sweat and tears already into this season.

Ali Sessions, who is a senior and a now veteran of the guard, said she too is looking forward to an even better season this year.

“The current progress of the guard is going really well,” Sessions said. “We have a lot of solos within the show. It’s a fun and exciting theme and we have put a lot of blood, sweat and tears already into this season.”

Winter guard will compete against large schools this season in the Caprock Color Guard Circuit, despite being a new winter guard. Almost all competitions will be in Lubbock and will start in the Spring.
