Cell phone fines aid school funds

August marked the 4th consecutive year that CISD has been charging $15 dollars for the return of a student cell phone taken up by a faculty member. Below is the dollar amount collected per school year.

                    *2008-2009: $6,000

                    *2009-2010: $6,000

                    *2010-2011: $4,000

                                                                                                                                    *approximate numbers

These earnings go towards buying new technology for Randall classroom use. In the past three years, Randall has bought ELMO’s for the English and Art departments, Student Response Systems for the Math class and library and several LCD projectors.

This is a great way to raise money for things the school needs. Students are at school to learn, not text. If they can’t keep from texting, at least the school can use the money to buy technology that will hopefully keep the student engaged and learning.

The school shouldn’t make people pay $15 dollars for a phone being taken up. They should give it back or if they continue to take up peoples phones for $15 dollars they should use all that money to pay for peoples book fines.
