    No More Driver’s Licenses?

If technology continues to advance at its current rate, the day cars drive themselves may not be as far down the road as we think! A few weeks ago, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Toyota had some surprises to bring to the table. The car company showed off its new self-driving technologies on the Lexus 600H model. The car uses a roof-mounted laser to guide the vehicle. It also features various types of radar and camera equipment to navigate streets without a driver behind the wheel.

Although not very many people would want to send their car on a driverless journey, the technology could be useful for many things. Many people see self-driving vehicles just as another way for people to be lazy, but if you really think about it, there is potential for these vehicles to have a very positive outcome. For example, if something were to happen to someone in the vehicle and they needed urgent care, the driver could put the car in self-drive mode and have the car drive to the hospital while they cared for the passenger. Even something as simple as dropping something in the floor board of your car could make this new technology useful.

This topic comes with much controversy, though. The most common argument is over the safety of this technology. People will ask things like, “What if it malfunctions,” or “How am I supposed to put my life in the hands of a car?” While the technology is still in its early stages, like everything, it will have flaws and glitches. But if it becomes a mainstream product, the problems will most likely be fixed. The future has many incredible things in store, and this may just be one of the amazing inventions the future will hold.
