The Last 72 Hours: Raiders Dominate Competition
With Fall season competition in full swing, Raider teams and programs are competing almost daily. Here’s a look back at the last 72 hours and what’s coming next.
Tennis- The tennis team beat Brock 19-0 in Iowa Park to win area. The No. 1 state ranked Raiders will compete against No. 3 Vernon in Lubbock on Tuesday for the regional quarter finals. If they advance, they will play again Oct. 20-21 at the regional tournament in Abilene.
Cross Country- The girls’ team finished in 1st place at the district meet at Canyon High School. The boys’ team finished in 3rd. Both the girls and boys qualified to compete at regionals on Oct. 24 at Mae Simmons. If the Raiders advance at regionals, they will compete at the state tournament Nov. 4-5.
Football- The varsity team claimed a 45-35 win over Pampa last Friday. The Raiders, who are now 2-0 in district, will face Canyon at Happy State Bank Stadium this Friday for the annual G.O.A.T. game. Kick off is at 7 p.m.
Volleyball- The varsity team defeated West Plains this past Saturday, making them 11-0 in district. The Raider team will compete against Canyon Tuesday at Canyon H.S. Varsity plays at 7 p.m. while freshmen and junior varsity play at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Golf- The boys’ team set a new school record this past weekend for the lowest two day team score at a tournament. The record was set at the Dumas Fall Invitational where they finished in 1st place with a two day score of 582. The team will play again this weekend at the Frenship Invitational. The girls’ team finished the Oct. 15 Plainview Triangular in 2nd place. Next up for the girls, is the Dumas Triangular Oct. 22 in Dumas.
Marching Band- The band competed at the regional UIL marching band competition this past weekend and advanced to area. The area competition will be Oct. 29 at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene. If the band advances, they will make their second consecutive appearance at state which will be Nov. 9 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
