“The Greatest Showman” Entertains Audiences

The movie The Greatest Showman is rated PG and runs 105 minutes long. The Greatest Showman is about P.T. Barnum (Hugh Jackman) and his creation of the Barnum and Bailey Circus. Barnum works at a trading company, but the company gets shut down after going bankrupt. He takes out a loan and opens a museum committed to showcasing oddities. The museum is unsuccessful, so he searches for people with eccentricities to add to his attraction.

Barnum finds a man named Charles Stratton (Sam Humphrey) who has dwarfism, an 8-foot tall man, and Lettie Lutz (Keala Settle), a bearded woman, along with multiple other people. After a review is written referring to Barnum’s museum as a circus, Barnum decides to change the name.

The circus brings in money for Barnum and he purchases a mansion for him and his family. Barnum convinces playwright, Phillip Carlyle (Zac Efron) to join his circus by giving him 10% of the profits. The circus performers experience multiple obstacles they have to overcome. The Greatest Showman is a musical with music by John Debney and Joseph Trapanese and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The movie includes 11 songs, such as “The Greatest Show”, “A Million Dreams,” “Never Enough,” “Rewrite the Stars,” and “This is me” which won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song.

Overall, The Greatest Showman is a good movie with interesting characters and decent songs but is historically inaccurate.
