Junior Luis “Trae” Vasquez is a new editor for the Silver Streak. Vasquez edits just about everything students create in this class, from podcasts to Hall Talk videos.
Vasquez said he joined journalism because he likes “taking what people put on the paper, and then I make it happen.” This is his second year in this class, and people look to him for his editing prowess. In fact, he went from not knowing how to edit at the beginning of last year to being the best.
“I loved editing all the hall talks last year,” Vasquez said. “They were simple, fun, and easy.”
He was encouraged by our former journalism teacher Mrs. Neese to join the class as a freshman.
“Mrs. Neese said that it would be a fun experience that would last a lifetime,” Vasquez said.
His work ethic is one of many things that helped the broadcast students make it to the state UIL film contest. He crammed in about four months of editing into roughly three weeks. Of the two films students made last year, the one he edited did not make state; however, he has learned from that experience of nonstop work. He hopes that this year he will accomplish more and put more time into the film contest. His main goal is too make the film this year have better quality.
“I would love to go to state again,” Vasquez said. “It was an experience I hope to do again and reach higher than before.”
